Gwyneth Paltrow admitted to those close to her that she felt “sad” when she learned that Brad Pitt had married Jennifer Aniston, Page Six reports. The revelation comes from the new biography Gwyneth: The Biography by author Amy Odell, cited by Us Weekly.
During an interview at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2000, a journalist asked Paltrow how she felt about Pitt and Aniston’s July wedding that year. Paltrow responded coldly: “Are you seriously asking me that question? I can’t comment on things like that,” with the book noting that her eyes “shot daggers.”
In reality, however, according to sources close to the actress, Paltrow confided that she was saddened by the news of the marriage. She often remarked that “Brad has terrible taste in women.”
Later that same year, during a dinner with Estée Lauder heiress Aerin Lauder, Paltrow couldn’t hold back and added another biting comment: “He’s dumber than a bag of shit,” a source familiar with the conversation revealed.
Paltrow and Pitt met on the set of Se7en in 1994 and began a relationship that led to an engagement in 1996, but they split a year later without citing a specific reason. During that time, the actress even admitted to a crew member on the set of Emma that she doubted whether Pitt was right for her and that she had feelings for Hugh Grant.
“Brad and I had very different upbringings,” she said in an interview. “When we go to a restaurant and order caviar, I have to explain to him which is beluga and which is sturgeon.”
After his breakup with Paltrow, Pitt began a relationship with Aniston, proposing to her in 1999. Their wedding took place in July 2000 in Malibu. They divorced five years later, after Pitt began a relationship with his Mr. and Mrs. Smith co-star, Angelina Jolie.
Following Pitt, Paltrow dated Ben Affleck, who, according to the biography, was struggling with alcoholism and a gambling addiction at the time. Their relationship ended after a little over a year.
Paltrow later married Coldplay frontman Chris Martin on December 5, 2003. The couple has two children—a daughter named Apple and a son named Moses. They separated in 2014 after more than a decade of marriage.
Gwyneth Paltrow is currently married to producer Brad Falchuk, with whom she tied the knot in 2018.
The book Gwyneth: The Biography will be released on July 29 and is already available for pre-order. |BGNES
