Spain is the third semi-finalist in this year's edition of the Women's European Championship in Switzerland.
The world champions defeated the hosts 2:0 in the capital Bern, despite failing twice from the penalty spot.
The first time this happened was in the 9th minute, when Mariona Caldentey failed to overcome Swiss goalkeeper Livia Peng. Within just five minutes of the second half, however, the Spanish team killed the intrigue with two quick goals, scored by substitutes Athenea del Castillo and Claudia Pina. In the end, Alexia Putellas also missed a penalty kick, and Switzerland ended up with 10 players on the field after Noelle Maritz's direct red card.
In the semi-finals, Spain will face the winner of the France-Germany match on July 23 in Zurich. A day earlier is the other semi-final between the current holders of the trophy, England, and Italy. | BGNES
