The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (EMY) has issued a new warning for a heatwave that will affect the country throughout the upcoming week, AFP reports.
According to EMY, the heat will begin on July 21 (Monday), peak with a forecast of 43 degrees Celsius on July 22 (Tuesday), and gradually subside by July 26 (Saturday). “High temperatures are expected almost throughout the entire week, starting Monday,” the agency announced, specifying that the heatwave is likely to end on Saturday.
On Monday, temperatures in Central Greece could reach up to 41°C, with Athens and Thessaloniki expected to see up to 38°C. On Tuesday, the capital may reach as high as 40°C.
Greece has already experienced two heatwaves in late June and early July, which forced authorities to restrict the opening hours of the country’s most visited tourist site—the Acropolis in Athens. |BGNES
