The leader of the Democratic Party of Albania, Sali Berisha, has made serious accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama, accusing him of involvement in espionage activities involving Russia and China. Berisha said that the "Smart City" project in the capital Tirana is becoming a surveillance tool that gives the government the power to control every aspect of citizens' lives.
According to him, the report by the US Department of Justice Inspector General presents Edi Rama as a key player in "the most powerful espionage game of our time." Berisha noted that "the Chinese dimension of this game surpasses all others," Albanian media outlet Express reported.
Berisha claims that the government's plan to install cameras in schools is "a step towards a police state" and seriously violates the personal space of children and citizens. He stressed that with the "Smart City" project, the authorities aim to establish "complete control over every public and private space" instead of serving modernization or information, as should be the case in democratic countries. | BGNES
