The Speaker of the Bulgarian National Assembly, Natalia Kiselova, has returned President Rumen Radev's request for a referendum on the euro.

In her letter to Rumen Radev, Kiselova states that his request for a referendum is inadmissible. She cites the constitution, Bulgaria's EU accession treaty, and a parliamentary decision on the accelerated introduction of the euro, as well as the law on referendums, to reject the president's request.

BGNES recalls that President Rumen Radev announced on Friday (May 9) that he would submit a proposal for a referendum on the euro to the National Assembly. His decision was described by most constitutional law experts as unconstitutional.
