The U.S. Rebukes Macron for Inaction Against Antisemitism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also leveled sharp criticism at Macron, accusing the French president of encouraging antisemitism after his decision last month to recognize the Palestinian state.

The U.S. ambassador to France, Charles Kushner, sent a letter to President Emmanuel Macron condemning the insufficient actions of the French authorities against the rising antisemitism, AFP reported. The letter is dated August 25—the 81st anniversary of the Liberation of Paris, which put an end to the deportation of Jews from French territory.

“I am writing to you, moved by deep concern over the dramatic rise of antisemitism in France and the lack of sufficient action by your government to address it,” Kushner states. He adds: “In France, not a day goes by without Jews being assaulted in the street, without synagogues or schools being desecrated, or Jewish businesses being vandalized.”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also leveled sharp criticism at Macron, accusing the French president of encouraging antisemitism after his decision last month to recognize the Palestinian state. According to Netanyahu, this led to an “explosion” of antisemitic incidents in France.

The Élysée Palace rejected the accusations as “vile” and “false.” “This is a time for seriousness and responsibility, not for conflation and manipulation,” the French presidency said. | BGNES
