Liverpool footballer Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Teixeira da Silva will be buried on July 5. The two died in a car accident in northern Spain in the early hours of Thursday morning.
According to the authoritative Portuguese publication Record, a ceremony will take place at the cemetery in Gondomar, the city where both footballers grew up. It will start at 10:00 local time. Farewell to the players will be a day earlier - from 16:00 on July 4.
The bodies of the two crash victims have already been sent to Portugal in hearses, accompanied by their relatives.
It is known that Diogo Jota's wife, Rute, was also at the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Zamora, where the remains were initially sent.
Meanwhile, Liverpool announced that the club's No. 20 shirt will be retired in honor of Diogo Jota. Following the Portuguese's tragic death, Reds fans have been vocal in their support for the number and have called for Jota to be its final holder.
"Number 20 will be rightly immortalised for his contribution to Liverpool's title win in the 2024/25 season - the club's 20th. With his iconic strike in front of the Kop to seal victory in the Merseyside derby in April - the touching final goal of his life," the club said in a statement. | BGNES
