President Donald Trump announced that Coca-Cola has agreed to start using real cane sugar in its drinks made in the United States. The announcement was made on his social media platform Truth Social.
The company has been using high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) in its U.S. products for years, a sweetener that has been criticized for years by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his Make America Healthy Again movement.
“I have been in discussions with Coca-Cola about using REAL cane sugar in the U.S. and they have agreed. Thank you to everyone at the company. This will be a very good change — you’ll see. It’s just better!” Trump wrote.
The president did not specify what prompted his initiative, nor whether there is a regulatory basis for the announced change. Curiously, the decision will not affect his favorite drink, Diet Coke, which is sugar-free.
Since returning to the White House, Trump has re-installed a special button in the Oval Office that summons an assistant with a Diet Coke.
Coca-Cola has not yet officially confirmed whether it will switch to cane sugar in its production for the US market. | BGNES
