Ukraine is ready to sign the long-awaited agreement with the US on the extraction of minerals, which could happen as early as April 30, a source from President Volodymyr Zelensky's office told the Kiev Independent.

According to the source, the final version of the agreement includes a 50-50 investment structure between the two countries and contains "very good details."

"I hope it will be approved soon, during the day, and in the evening our time. (Economy Minister) Yulia Svyrydenko will sign it," the statement said.

The agreement excludes any provisions related to Ukraine's debt for previous military or financial assistance from the US, the source said.

This marks a departure from previous US proposals, in which President Donald Trump sought to frame the agreement as a partial repayment of US military aid, claiming that Ukraine owes Washington up to $300 billion. | BGNES
