Moldovan oligarch and fugitive Vlad Plahotniuc, former leader of Moldova's Democratic Party, was arrested today (July 22) at noon in Greece, Kathimerini reported.
A red notice had been issued for him and he was wanted for crimes related to criminal organisation, fraud and money laundering, according to the Greek police.
According to the information, he was captured at Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. A close associate of his, a former member of parliament, was also arrested.
Plahotniuc left Moldova in June 2019 after his party suffered a defeat in the elections.
Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued against him for money laundering. | BGNES
