Greek authorities have imposed mandatory breaks for workers in regions of the country where temperatures exceed 40°C. The heatwave is expected to continue until Thursday, July 10, ERT reported.

The Ministry of Labor has ordered a temporary suspension of work between 12:00 and 17:00 for a number of activities, including manual labor and food deliveries. The measure mainly affects Central Greece and several islands. Employers have been urged to allow remote working where possible.

No emergency measures have been introduced in the capital Athens, and according to the authorities, the current heatwave, although unpleasant, is not unusual for the season, especially as similar temperatures are being experienced across Europe.

The Greek authorities emphasize that they are taking long-term action against climate change, including by mobilizing a record number of firefighters this summer. | BGNES
