Yannick Sinner continues without a lost set to the 1/8 finals in Cincinnati, but this time the world No. 1 did not have it easy at all. The Italian faced the young Canadian talent Gabriel Diallo and won 6:2 7:6 in 1 hour and 49 minutes.
Diallo, who is ranked 35th in the world, made 10 double faults, while Sinner made five mistakes.
The leader in the rankings started the match difficult, allowing an early break and falling behind by 0:2 in the game against the two-meter Diallo, but quickly switched to a higher gear and took the opening part with six consecutive games 6:2 in 49 minutes.
The second set turned out to be much tighter, in which there were no breaks. This led to a tiebreak, in which Diallo reached a set point on his own serve. However, the Canadian cracked at that very moment and allowed himself to lose both of his consecutive serves, which gave Sinner a match point and the Italian did not fail to take advantage of it.
Sinner's next opponent is the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino.
The first racket of the USA Taylor Fritz also continues to the fourth round in Cincinnati. The fourth in the world ranking won 7:6(4), 7:5 against the Italian Lorenzo Sonego. Fritz hit 13 aces, made 25 winners and did not give a single break point to Sonego.
In the next stage, Fritz will play the French qualifier Terrance Atman, who eliminated the Brazilian Joao Fonseca after 6:3, 6:4 in just 79 minutes of play. Before this week, Atman, ranked 136th in the world, had only won one ATP main draw match since the start of 2025.
Another of the Frenchman's surprises of the night was Benjamin Bonzi, who eliminated former world number 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4. | BGNES
