At least 14 people were killed and 99 injured after a massive Russian missile attack on Kiev on the night of June 17, the Kiev Independent reported.
In the attack, which lasted nearly nine hours, Moscow's forces fired a large number of kamikaze drones as well as cruise and ballistic missiles at the Ukrainian capital.
President Volodymyr Zelensky called the attack "one of the most horrific attacks on Kiev," saying that more than 440 drones and 32 missiles were fired into Ukrainian territory overnight.
"Such attacks are pure terrorism," he said in a statement on social media. "And the whole world, the United States and Europe must finally react the way civilized societies react to terrorists."
The Ukrainian president confirmed that damage had been recorded in 8 areas of Kiev, with emergency workers still searching for survivors under the rubble of a destroyed apartment block.
Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha also condemned the attack, calling it a "massive and brutal strike" deliberately timed to coincide with the G7 summit.
"Putin is doing this on purpose. He sends a signal of total disrespect to the United States and other partners who have called for an end to the killings," Sibiha said. "Only decisive steps and real pressure on Moscow can prove him wrong."
The attack followed a series of drone strikes on the night of June 16 targeting the Kiev region, including the capital and surrounding villages.
Russian attacks against Ukraine intensified in May and June, with Moscow launching several record-breaking massive strikes against Kiev and other cities. | BGNES
