The film 'F1' has made a stunning start, beating all competitors on its way to the top spot at the global box office with over $140 million in its opening weekend alone.

Of that, $55.6 million came from the United States, including $25 million on its opening day, Friday, according to data from The Numbers.

The Brad Pitt-starring film, produced by seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, is set on real-life F1 tracks during the 2024 season. Pitt plays a driver who comes out of retirement to help his struggling team and mentor a promising young driver.

According to Forbes, it's the biggest opening weekend for an Apple Studios film, surpassing 'Napoleon' ($78.8 million in 2023).

Despite an impressive start, with a budget of over $350 million, the film will need even better box office results to break even and turn a profit. | BGNES
