Six years after Karl Lagerfeld's death, his famous cat Choupette continues to cause a sensation. The most famous cat in the world is about to make her film debut in an unexpected role.

Choupette has had a dream life for a long time. After becoming the pet of famous fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in 2011, the cat found herself in the spotlight, appearing in advertising campaigns for major brands and earning her owner nearly €3 million in 2014.

When the former artistic director of Chanel died in 2019, the little ball of fur was entrusted to Françoise Casot, the designer's former housekeeper, who has since been taking care of her in an apartment in Paris.

Despite the death of her owner, Choupette has never left the media spotlight. She continues to lead a luxurious life. On August 15 last year, she even celebrated her 13th birthday in the courtyard of the Palace of Versailles.

The cat even has her own community of fans on Instagram, with 271,000 followers keeping track of her daily life. She is also represented by My Pet Agency for her collaborations and recently starred in an advertising campaign for the watch brand Hublot. But her latest project is the biggest surprise of all.

On July 16, Choupette will make her film debut in a very surprising but fitting role. She plays Azrael, the cat of the villain Gargamel in “The Smurfs,” a film directed by Chris Miller. The animal shares the screen with Jérôme Commandeur, François Damiens, Sofia Essai, Philippe Katerine, Dorothée, Virginie Hocquard, Gérard Hernández, and Patricia Kaas.

Following the death of Karl Lagerfeld, one question is on everyone's mind: did Choupette really inherit his fortune? Officially, French law prohibits animals from being named as heirs. It is therefore impossible for the designer to have left his millions directly to his beloved cat.

However, the designer often said that he wanted Choupette to have everything she needed after his death. To circumvent the law, he entrusted the future of his precious companion to his housekeeper, Françoise Cassot. Like Karl, his cat remains a star and wants for nothing. | BGNES
