‘Squid Game’ Breaks Netflix Records Just Three Days After Season 3 Premiere

Even more impressively, it will now enter the top 10 of all-time non-English series on the platform.

In addition to taking the TV world by storm in 2021, director Hwang Dong-hyuk’s South Korean hit continues to surprise with its third season. Just three days after its highly anticipated premiere, Squid Game season 3 became Netflix’s most-watched non-English title of the week, with a staggering 60.1 million views.

Even more impressively, it will now enter the top 10 of all-time non-English series on the platform.

The series follows a group of desperate people mired in debt, led by protagonist Seong Gi-hoon, aka Player 456 (played by Lee Jong-jae), who embark on a brutal series of “childish” games. The prize? A bet — and a chance to survive.

The first season of Squid Game remains the most-watched title in Netflix history, and although critics have become increasingly divided about the quality of subsequent seasons, the third season looks set to set new streaming records. | BGNES
