Albin Kurti, Kosovo's acting prime minister and leader of the Self-Determination party, said that Albina Hajji's candidacy for speaker of the Kosovo Assembly is a party decision and will not be withdrawn. He also said he is ready to compromise on forming a government.
"Let's not play this negative game. We must respect each other's proposals and lead the parliament on the basis of merit," Kurti said in an interview with Radio Television Kosovo.
Although the nomination for speaker of the assembly is the exclusive right of the election winner, Haxhiu is considered a "controversial figure" by the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, which insist that Self-Determination propose another name for speaker.
The process of forming the Kosovo Assembly has stalled precisely on the election of the president. MPs must also elect five deputies before the new parliament can be finally formed. Only then can a new government be formed.
Kurti said he would be ready to make compromises and concessions during the process. He mentioned minorities as possible partners, as well as Fatmir Limaj's Social Democratic Initiative.
To those who doubt that there are enough votes to form a cabinet, Kurti said: "Try me." | BGNES
