Bulgaria expresses growing concern about the Republic of North Macedonia's continued failure to fulfill its commitments to the European Union.
In a letter, Foreign Minister Georg Georgiev informed his colleagues from the European Union member states and European institutions about Skopje's latest attempts to compromise important elements of the European consensus.
The package agreement approved at European level in July 2022 remains the only possible way forward for this EU candidate country. Unfortunately, instead of constructive dialogue and good neighborly relations, we are witnessing a policy of confrontation, provocation, and reneging on commitments, including the deliberate challenging of key agreements before the Constitutional Court in Skopje.
It is not possible to change the agreed European consensus or any of its components. Bulgaria expects its neighbor to fulfill its commitments in good faith, as repeatedly insisted upon by the European Council itself.
We remain of the opinion that the best solution for the future of the Western Balkans is for all countries to participate in this most successful project called the European Union. We are ready to help Skopje on its European path in the reform process, if membership in a united Europe is the real choice of its government. | BGNES
