Kurti accuses Serbia of ‘real threat to Kosovo’s security’

Interim Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and interim Foreign Minister Donika Gervala said Serbia continues to pose a “real threat to Kosovo’s national security.”

At a conference in Pristina that brought together all of Kosovo’s ambassadors around the world, Kurti stressed that diplomats have a key role in countering propaganda and presenting Kosovo abroad. “Serbia’s attempts to undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our state are still a threat to our national security,” he said.

Gervala described relations between Kosovo and Serbia as a “challenge,” as Serbia not only refuses to recognize the state, but also leads an open campaign to undermine its international status, hinders integration and financing processes, and supports illegal criminal structures on Kosovo’s territory. She assured that her country is working closely with allies to prevent these "threats" from becoming reality.

In this context, Kurti said that Serbia "in close cooperation with the Russian Federation" is spending millions of euros on lobbying and spreading "systematic false messages against Kosovo" around the world.

Serbia reacts sharply every time another country recognizes Kosovo's independence, as happened this year with Kenya and Sudan.

The dialogue to normalize relations between the two countries, mediated by the European Union, began in 2011 and has so far resulted in dozens of agreements, but most of them have not been implemented in practice. | BGNES
