Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will discuss the conflict in Ukraine and international security in general on Friday, August 15, in Alaska, the Kremlin announced.
The meeting will be the first between the incumbent presidents of the US and Russia since 2021 and comes at a time when Trump is trying to mediate an end to Russia's nearly three-year offensive.
"It is probably obvious to everyone that the central topic will be the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine," Putin's adviser Yuri Ushakov said, quoted by AFP.
"Of course, broader issues related to ensuring peace and security, as well as pressing international and regional problems, will also be discussed," he added.
The talks will begin in Alaska at 10:30 p.m. (Bulgarian time), Ushakov said.
They will be held "one-on-one" between Putin and Trump, with only their interpreters present, Ushakov said.
"This will be followed by negotiations between the delegations, which will continue during a working breakfast," Ushakov added.
The Russian delegation will include Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov, and economic negotiator Kirill Dmitriev, Ushakov added.
Putin and Trump will hold a joint press conference after their meeting, during which they will "summarize the results of the negotiations."
This will be the first joint press conference between the US and Russian leaders since 2018, when Putin met with Trump in Helsinki. | BGNES
