Yannick Sinner endures tough test and reaches quarterfinals in Cincinnati

Yannick Sinner continues to defend his title in Cincinnati after a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 (4) victory over Adrian Mannarino (France) to advance to the quarterfinals. The match was interrupted for more than two and a half hours early in the second set due to a storm.

Sinner broke in the third game of the first set and then held the lead until the end of the first set. The second half offered more intrigue and went game by game until 5-5. The Italian then broke Mannarino's serve and took a 6-5 lead. However, the Frenchman returned the break and sent the set to a tiebreak, where he was unable to resist the world No. 1.

In the quarterfinals, Yannick Sinner will face Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Carlos Alcaraz also moves on. The Spaniard defeated Luca Nardi 6-1, 6-4 in 1 hour and 20 minutes of play. After a comfortable first set, the Italian raised his level, but Alcaraz reacted adequately and closed the match in two sets.

The Spaniard will face Andrei Rublev in the next round.

Holger Rune reached his tenth quarterfinal at the Masters level after eliminating Frances Tiafoe. However, the match ended in an unpleasant way, as last year's finalist in the tournament was forced to withdraw due to injury in the middle of the second set with a score of 6-4, 3-1.

In his next match, Rune will face Taylor Fritz or Terrence Atman. Tiafoe's elimination means that the American will lose his place in the Top 15 of the rankings on Monday. | BGNES
