Kubrat Pulev's WBA world title defense falls through

The Bulgarian was expected to fight Michael Hunter

The expected fight between Kubrat Pulev and Michael Hunter this summer has fallen through. Our compatriot was expected to defend his WBA world title, but the Bulgarian's intended opponent has other plans. Hunter announced that he will fight Jarrell Miller on September 11.

We recall that Don King won the right to organize the fight after bidding $1.1 million at the auction. Pulev was expected to defend the belt he won against Mahmoud Char in late 2024 in Bulgaria on August 23.

Hunter's decision to face Miller angered King, who is demanding that the fight be stopped. He has already sent an official complaint to the organizers and is threatening legal action.

The 36-year-old American has a record of 24-1-2 (17 by knockout), with his only loss coming to world champion Oleksandr Usyk in 2017. He has drawn with Alexander Povetkin and Jerry Forrest. His last fight was a victory over Cristian Larondo Garcia in December of last year.

Pulev also had longer-term plans in the midst of the Hunter fight. After that, Kubrat was also offered the opportunity for a title unification bout with the WBA interim titleholder. It was reported that the deadline for the fight was December 31. | BGNES
