Madonna has called on Pope Leo XIV to visit the Gaza Strip and bring his "light" to the children before it is "too late."
In a plea shared on social media, the singer said the pope was "the only one of us who cannot be denied access."
The star's appeal follows the recent attack that killed renowned Al Jazeera correspondent Anas al-Sharif and four of his colleagues, who had taken shelter in front of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City on the evening of August 10.
Their deaths were condemned by the UN, the EU, and media rights organizations.
In her post, Madonna writes: "Holy Father, please go to Gaza and bring your light to the children before it is too late. As a mother, I cannot bear to watch their suffering. The children of the world belong to all of us. You are the only one of us who cannot be denied access. We need humanitarian corridors to be fully open to save these innocent children. There is no more time. Please say you will go. With love, Madonna."
In the description of her post, she shared that it was her son Rocco's birthday and that "the best gift I can give him as a mother is to ask everyone to do whatever they can to save the innocent children caught in the crossfire in Gaza."
"I am not pointing fingers, I am not blaming anyone, and I am not taking sides. Everyone is suffering. Including the mothers of the hostages. I pray that they too will be released," the singer added.
Madonna also called for donations to three different organizations.
In July, Pope Leo XIV renewed his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, urging the international community to respect international law and the obligation to protect civilians.
"I call on the international community to respect humanitarian law and the obligation to protect civilians, as well as the prohibition of collective punishment, indiscriminate use of force, and forced displacement of the population," he said. | BGNES
