Ludogorets eliminated from Champions League, defeatеа by Ferencváros

The Bulgarian champion lost its rematch with Hungarian Ferencváros 0:3, after a goalless draw at home.

Ludogorets were eliminated from the Champions League in the third qualifying round. The Bulgarian champions lost their second leg against Hungarian side Ferencváros 0:3, after a goalless draw at home.

The Hungarian team took the lead with a goal by Barnabás Varga in the 38th minute, and after the break Sombor Gruber and Gabor Szalai consolidated Ferencváros’ superiority with two goals in the 78th and 85th minutes respectively.

The match at the Groupama Arena, however, was marked by controversial refereeing decisions. Already in the first half, Ivaylo Chochev’s goal against Denes Dibus was disallowed for offside – a decision confirmed by VAR, although television replays showed an extremely controversial situation.

Later, Ludogorets could have been awarded a penalty for pushing Chochev in the back by Gertenmann, which prevented a goal situation, but the Spanish referee did not point the white spot.

The Eagles will continue in the Europa League playoffs, where they will face Shkendija from North Macedonia for a place in the group stage, while the Hungarians will compete with Qarabag for a quota in the Champions League. I BGNES
