Romania's Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the appeal filed by Alliance for the Unity of Romanians (AUR) leader George Simion against the annulment of the elections won by independent candidate Nicușor Dăncilă, Agerpres reported.
"At its meeting on May 22, 2025 the Constitutional Court, within its powers regarding compliance with the procedure for electing the President of Romania, examined the request for annulment of the Romanian presidential election in the second round of the election held on May 18, 2025, filed by Gheorghe Nicolae Simion. After deliberation, the Constitutional Court unanimously rejected the request for annulment of the elections as unfounded. The decision is final and will be communicated to the Central Election Bureau," the Constitutional Court announced in a press release.
The formal session to confirm and validate the results of the presidential election will be held at the Constitutional Court at 12 noon.
The ceremony will be attended by acting President Ilie Bolojan and Nicușor Dăn.
In his request to the Constitutional Court, Simion asked the judges to establish that “the electoral process for the election of the President of Romania in 2025 was accompanied by numerous irregularities and violations of electoral law, which led to a breach of the fundamental principles of democratic elections.” | BGNES
