US President Donald Trump said he had ordered the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to "extremely provocative" comments by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

"Based on the extremely provocative statements by former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev... I have ordered two nuclear submarines to be deployed in the appropriate regions — just in case these reckless and inflammatory words are not just words," Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

He added that "words are important and often lead to unintended consequences," expressing hope that "this is not one of those cases."

Trump did not specify whether the submarines were nuclear-armed or just nuclear-powered, nor did he indicate where exactly they would be deployed – information that is usually kept secret by the US military. | BGNES
