Final: Olympique Lyonnais to play in Ligue 1

Seven-time champions granted "temporarily relegated" status in November

On Thursday, the DNCG appeals committee assured that Olympique Lyonnais will remain a full participant in Ligue 1 in the 2025/26 season. The French Football Federation (FFF) has overturned the club's expulsion from the Groupama Stadium in the second tier of French football. The National Directorate of Management Control still imposed two sanctions - a salary cap and financial compensation.

“The new management, supported by the commitment and dedication of our shareholders and creditors, is extremely grateful for all the support received both inside and outside the club, including from its supporters, employees, players, partners and elected officials.

Today’s decision is the first step towards restoring confidence in Olympique Lyonnais. We can now focus on our sporting objectives and fully prepare for next season,” the club said.

After being provisionally relegated, Lyon sold players such as Said Benrahma, Anthony Lopez and Maxence Kakre in January. This summer, the club also parted ways with its best player, Ryan Cherki, who left for Manchester City for £34m.

The seven-time champions were provisionally relegated in November after accumulating huge debts and were provisionally relegated from Ligue 1 by the DNCG on 24 July. |BGNES
