Khamzat Chimaev (15-0-0) is the new UFC middleweight champion after his powerful performance at UFC 319. In the main event of the gala evening, he was defeated by Dricus Du Plessis (23-3-0) by decision.

The fighter of Chechen origin left no chance for the South African, achieving 12 takedowns and demonstrating control on the ground for more than 4 minutes in each of the rounds. Du Plessis only allowed himself to be knocked down on two occasions.

Even when the referee lifted both men to the standing position several times to make the fight more attractive, this did not change the course of events – Chimaev continued to dominate and took down his opponent almost instantly.

Former champion Du Plessis tried to find a way back into the match in the final fifth round when he threw all his strength into a desperate attempt.
