Modric leaves Real Madrid after 13 years at the Bernabeu

The 39-year-old Croatian won four La Liga titles and six Champions Leagues during his time at the club.

Luka Modric will leave Real Madrid after 13 years at the Santiago Bernabeu, he announced on his Instagram account. This will happen after the end of the Club World Cup this summer.

"Dear Madridistas,

The moment has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but this is football - and in life, everything has a beginning and an end...on Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabeu", Modric wrote on social media.

The 39-year-old Croatian arrived in the Spanish capital in 2012 on a transfer from Tottenham. In 13 years, he became one of the most decorated players in the history of Real, winning six Champions Leagues, four La Liga titles, two Copa del Reys and five Club World Cups. In 2018, he also won the Ballon d'Or after leading Croatia to the World Cup final in Russia.

On Saturday, May 24, Modric and Real Madrid host Real Sociedad in their final match of the La Liga season. | BGNES
