Iran attacks Israel with hypersonic missiles

Trump insisted Washington played no role in the bombing of its ally Israel, but also warned Iran that its patience was running out as the conflict enters its sixth day.

Iran has reportedly fired hypersonic missiles at Israel, hours after US President Donald Trump demanded the Islamic Republic's "unconditional surrender", AFP reports.

Trump insisted Washington played no role in the bombing of its ally Israel, but also warned Iran that its patience was running out as the conflict enters its sixth day.

Israeli warplanes targeted the Iranian capital before dawn on June 18 after the military issued a warning to civilians to leave an area for their safety.

Later, the Israeli military said it had struck weapons production sites and a facility used to produce centrifuges (for uranium enrichment) in Tehran.

Iran warned Tel Aviv residents to prepare for an attack, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps saying its Fatah-1 hypersonic missiles "repeatedly shook shelters" in Tel Aviv.

"The 11th wave of the proud Operation Honest Promise 3 has been carried out using Fatah-1 missiles," the Guard said in a statement broadcast on state television.

The hypersonic missiles travel at more than five times the speed of sound and can maneuver in flight, making them more difficult to track and intercept.

Iran has also sent a "swarm of drones" to Israel, where the army reportedly intercepted two over the Dead Sea area.

World powers are trying to find a way out, hoping to prevent the conflict from escalating into a war that could engulf the entire region. | BGNES
