Jackie Chan with encouraging news about "Rush Hour 4"

Chan insisted that Rush Hour 4 is still in development.

Movie star Jackie Chan revealed that "the script for Rush Hour 4 is still being written."

The 71-year-old actor, who played Detective Inspector Yuen Biao alongside Detective James Carter, played by Chris Tucker, in the action-comedy trilogy, will return for a fourth film. Chan insisted that Rush Hour 4 is still in development.

When Screen Rant asked Chan if the fourth film in the series was still in development, he replied, "Yes! And I want to do [another one]. The script is still being written. I want to do Rush Hour 4."

Despite his hopes for another film in the Rush Hour series, the Karate Kid: Legends actor admitted that he is unsure how far along the project is in development.

"I don't know. Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the screenwriter. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and I [will be] 100 years old. We'll be old men making Rush Hour," he said.

Rush Hour tells the story of a disciplined Hong Kong inspector and a reckless Los Angeles police detective who are forced to work together when a little girl is kidnapped in Los Angeles.

As their cultures and methods clash, they must find common ground to solve the case before time runs out.

In 2022, Chan confirmed that a fourth film in the series is in the works.

"We are currently discussing part 4," he said during the Red Sea Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.

The actor confirmed that he would meet with the film's director to discuss the script, although he did not specify who would be directing the project.

Brett Ratner directed all three previous films in the Rush Hour series but was fired by Warner Bros. following allegations of sexual assault in 2017.

However, it was previously reported that Ratner and Lionsgate would be involved in the fourth film, although they have not confirmed this yet.

After Chan revealed that Rush Hour 4 was in development, 53-year-old Tucker said he would "definitely" return for the sequel.

"You're going to see some really good stuff, but it's going to be on a whole different level. I like that. I'm excited about it. It's not going to be what you've seen before. Rush Hour 4 is something I'm definitely going to be involved in because I love working with Jackie, but I also have some new things that I think you're going to like a lot. I'm excited about it," he said during his appearance on The Big Tigger Morning Show on Audacy's V-103.

With a budget of $35 million, Rush Hour grossed $244.7 million worldwide after its theatrical release in 1998.

In total, the series — including 2001's Rush Hour 2 and 2007's Rush Hour 3 — has earned nearly $850 million worldwide. | BGNES
