Miley Cyrus reveals the medical condition behind her raspy voice

The “Party in the U.S.A.” star admits that when she was 21, frequent partying, late nights, alcohol, and cigarettes didn't help, but she emphatically stresses that they are not the cause of the problem.

Miley Cyrus has shared that she suffers from a condition called Reinke's edema, which gives her voice its distinctive raspiness but also prevents her from touring frequently.

“It's part of my unique anatomy,” the 32-year-old ‘Flowers’ singer said on Apple Music's “The Zane Lowe Show.” There, she revealed that she has a “very large polyp” — an unusual growth of tissue — on one of her vocal cords.

“This condition has given me a lot of the timbre and texture that defines me as an artist, but it's extremely difficult to sing with — it's like running a marathon with weights on your ankles,” Cyrus explained.

“My voice has always sounded like this,” she added.

The “Wrecking Ball” singer said that sometimes when she is exhausted, even her mother tells her that she sounds like she is “talking on the radio.” | BGNES
