Boyko Borisov: Going to elections would be a disaster for Bulgaria, Radev is using the presidency as his own private airline

The GERB leader sharply criticized the behavior of President Rumen Radev, who called for a referendum against the adoption of the euro.

The leader of Bulgaria's largest political party, GERB, Boyko Borisov, said that early parliamentary elections after the country's accession to the eurozone on January 1, 2026, would be a disaster for the country, BGNES reported.

GERB is holding a national conference in Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city. The meeting is attended by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, ministers, and GERB MPs, whose mandate formed the government.

Boyko Borisov said that after Bulgaria's accession to the eurozone, the economy will grow, people's incomes will rise, and foreign investment will increase. The leader of GERB emphasized that the introduction of the single European currency is a great success for Bulgaria and for his party, which has always led the country on the European path of development and is at the heart of this success. These achievements have been recognized by both European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Central Bank Director Christine Lagarde.

Borisov called on the main opposition party, “We Continue the Change,” not to work against Bulgaria's interests and not to try to sabotage the adoption of the euro with its smear campaign in a number of European capitals.

The GERB leader sharply criticized the behavior of President Rumen Radev, who called for a referendum against the adoption of the euro. Boyko Borisov called on the president not to divide the nation and not to run Bulgaria like a private airline, thus alluding to Radev's profession before he became president – military pilot.
