Brazil's Supreme Court on Monday ordered former president Jair Bolsonaro to be placed under house arrest. The measure was imposed for violating a ban on using social media, imposed as part of his trial for alleged involvement in a coup plot.

Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the judicial system would not allow Bolsonaro to "make a fool of himself." A day earlier, close allies of the far-right leader posted photos of him on social media — in clear violation of the ban. | BGNES, AFP
