Nicusor Dan takes office as President of Romania today

Nicusor Dan will take office today during a handover ceremony at Cotroceni Palace.

According to the presidential administration, a military ceremony marking Nicusor Dan's inauguration as President of Romania will take place at 1:30 p.m. at Cotroceni Palace, followed by the handover ceremony at 1:35 p.m.

Prior to that, newly elected President Nicusor Dan will take the oath of office in the plenary hall of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The solemn session is scheduled for 12:00, according to Agerpres.

Members of the government and the Constitutional Court, former presidents of Romania, the royal family, representatives of central public institutions, as well as bodies controlled by parliament and representatives of religious denominations.

Among those invited are MEPs, representatives of European institutions, and heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Romania.

According to the memorandum approved by the parliament's leadership, the solemn session will open with the national anthem, and the president of the Constitutional Court, Marian Enache, will present the decision validating the election of the president.

Nicusor Dan will then take the oath of office in accordance with the Constitution:

"I swear to devote all my strength and abilities to the spiritual and material prosperity of the Romanian people, to respect the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend democracy, the fundamental rights and freedoms of citizens, the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of Romania. May God help me!"

The Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, Daniel, will bless the inauguration of the President of Romania.

The ceremony will conclude with an address by the new president to the plenary hall.

The Constitutional Court of Romania confirmed on Thursday, May 22, the results of the presidential elections, with the decision of the Constitutional Court published in the State Gazette. | BGNES
