French visitors to Pornhub and Youporn, adult websites operated by parent company Aylo, are now greeted with a message condemning the country's age verification requirements, AFP reports.
Aylo is ‘communicating directly with French citizens to tell them how dangerous, how potentially invasive of privacy and how ineffective French legislation is,’ said Solomon Friedman of Ethical Capital Partners, the company's owner.
Paris has gradually introduced rules this year for all adult websites to require users to confirm their age with details such as a credit card or ID.
In an effort to protect privacy, operators must offer a ‘double-blind’ option to a third party that prevents the platforms themselves from seeing users' identifying information.
However, Aylo argues that this is an ineffective mechanism that exposes people's data to the risk of malicious individuals, hackers or information leaks. They argue that the parties should deal with operating system developers such as Microsoft's Windows, Apple's iOS or Google's Android, rather than pornographic platforms. | BGNES, AFP
