Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in a dramatic quarter-final of the Club World Cup to reach the semi-finals against Paris Saint-Germain, reports the Guardian.
The Spanish team imposed their superiority in the match at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, dominating possession and leading by two goals thanks to Gonzalo Garcia and Fran Garcia in the 10th and 20th minutes.
Despite the lower intensity of the game in the New Jersey heat, the White Ballet looked like they would win the match without any problems, but in added time the game turned around.
Substitute Maximilian Bayer took advantage of a rebound in the 93rd minute to pull one back for Dortmund, but a minute later Kylian Mbappe restored Real's lead with a superb volley, showing his trademark composure.
Dortmund, however, did not give up and Serhu Girassi broke through Real's defence but was brought down in the penalty area by Deen Huysen. The former Bournemouth defender was shown a straight red card, ruling him out of the semi-finals, and Girassi coolly converted the penalty to reduce the deficit to 3-2.
Dortmund came within a whisker of equalising in added time when Thibaut Courtois made a sensational save in the ninth minute to deny Marcel Sabitzer's powerful shot.
Real Madrid now turn their attention to PSG, who beat Bayern Munich 2-0 to book their place in the semi-finals. The winner of that clash will face either Fluminense or Chelsea in the final.| BGNES
