Two months after the release of Android 16 for Pixel devices and the premiere of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7 and Z Flip 7 FE with Android 16 (One UI 8) pre-installed, the first data about the next major version of the operating system is already appearing.
The codename of Android 17 will be Cinnamon Bun (“cinnamon roll”).
It is important to clarify that Cinnamon Bun will not be the official public name of the version – Google discontinued this practice with Android 10. However, the company continues to use dessert names for internal use for each new version of Android.
After switching to the new “trunk-based” development model, which speeds up the release of new versions and eliminates some of the shortcomings of the old “branch-based” approach, Google also restarted the internal naming tradition. Thus, Android 16 was known as baklava, and logically Android 17 had to have a dessert name starting with “C”. Since "Cupcake" (Android 1.5) has already been used, the company has opted for a more creative choice this time. | BGNES
