Israel is waging a "targeted campaign of starvation" in Gaza, according to Amnesty International.
The UN and many non-governmental organizations continue to warn of impending famine in the occupied Palestinian territory, AFP reported.
This campaign is "systematically destroying the health, well-being, and social fabric" of Gaza, the human rights organization said after interviewing 19 Palestinians from Gaza living in displacement camps and two members of medical staff treating children suffering from malnutrition.
For the NGO, the evidence it has gathered confirms that "the deadly combination of hunger and disease is not an unfortunate consequence of Israeli military operations" in Gaza.
"This is the deliberate result of plans and policies that Israel has developed and implemented over the past 22 months to deliberately impose on Palestinians in Gaza living conditions calculated to bring about their physical destruction — which is an integral part of the genocide being committed by Israel against the Palestinians in Gaza," she added.
In April, Amnesty International accused Israeli authorities of committing genocide "before the eyes of the world" in Gaza. The Israeli Foreign Ministry dismissed these allegations as "unfounded lies."
COGAT, an Israeli Defense Ministry body that oversees civilian affairs in the occupied Palestinian territories, said on August 12 that there were "no signs of widespread malnutrition" in the Gaza Strip, refuting reports of deaths from malnutrition.
The Palestinian territory, which is completely dependent on humanitarian aid, is threatened by "mass starvation," according to the UN, which is calling for an "injection" of aid. | BGNES
