Hamas negotiators in Cairo have received a new proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The new plan calls for a 60-day truce and the release of hostages in two stages, a Palestinian representative told AFP.
"The proposal is a framework agreement to start negotiations for a permanent ceasefire," said the same source, who wished to remain anonymous.
He added that "Hamas will hold internal consultations among its leadership" and with leaders of other Palestinian factions to consider the proposal.
Earlier today, Amnesty International accused Israel of waging a "targeted campaign of starvation" in Gaza.
This campaign "is systematically destroying the health, welfare, and social fabric" of Gaza, the rights group said after interviewing 19 Palestinians from Gaza living in displacement camps and two members of medical staff treating children suffering from malnutrition.
The Palestinian territory, which is completely dependent on humanitarian aid, is threatened by "mass starvation," according to the UN. | BGNES
