According to reports from British media, actress Sydney Sweeney is being considered a top candidate for the role of the new “Bond girl” in the upcoming installment of the James Bond film series, Cosmopolitan reports. Director Denis Villeneuve, who is reportedly attached to the project, is believed to support her, and according to sources cited by The Sun, Sweeney also has the backing of Jeff Bezos — the owner of Amazon, the company now managing the franchise.
The media outlet suggests this could explain her recent attendance at Bezos’s wedding in Italy a few weeks ago. “Sydney is at the top of the casting list for Bond,” a source claims. “Denis believes she is extremely talented, has a seductive charm that appeals to younger generations — key to modernizing the franchise. She’s also athletic, capable of performing physical scenes while maintaining her femininity, in the spirit of the classic Bond girls.”
As for the role of James Bond himself, no official casting decision has been confirmed, but Aaron Taylor-Johnson remains one of the frontrunners. His name has been circulating since 2022, when it was reported that he had completed successful screen tests and received approval from longtime producer Barbara Broccoli. Other names being considered include Idris Elba, Jonathan Bailey, Regé-Jean Page, Tom Hardy, and James Norton.
The Bond franchise is undergoing a critical phase of reimagining and development after Amazon acquired the rights, so final decisions are still forthcoming. | BGNES
