The European Union has expressed strong support for the International Criminal Court (ICC) after the administration of US President Donald Trump imposed sanctions on four of its judges.
European Council President Antonio Costa said the ICC was ‘the cornerstone of international justice’ and that its independence and integrity must be protected.
Washington imposed sanctions on four judges in an unprecedented response to the arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and previous decisions to open cases for war crimes committed by US troops in Afghanistan.
The arrest warrant names Solomi Balungi Bosha of Uganda, Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza of Peru, Reyne Adelaida Sophie Alapi Gansu of Benin and Betty Hoeller of Slovenia. | BGNES
