Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal announced that he had resigned as part of a major government reshuffle expected to take place this week.
A day earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed that Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko replace Shmygal as prime minister, while indicating that Shmygal could be appointed defense minister.
In a social media post, Zelensky described the move as part of a "transformation of the executive branch" and expressed hope that her appointment would "significantly revitalize the work" of the government, Ukrainian media reported.
This development comes at a critical time for Ukraine, which faces numerous challenges in the areas of defense, the economy, and internal reforms.
If Svyrydenko's appointment is confirmed, she will replace Denys Shmyhal, who has held the post of prime minister since 2020. | BGNES
