Alcaraz to miss Canada Masters

World number 2 has some minor muscle issues after Wimbledon.

World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz is the latest high-profile name to pull out of the Canada Masters, tournament organizers said.

The five-time Grand Slam champion wants to take some extra time off and recover after Wimbledon and before the US Open. At Wimbledon, the 22-year-old Spaniard lost in the final to Jannik Sinner, missing out on a third straight title at All England Club.

"I am very sad to have to miss the Canada Masters. I have done everything I can to be ready for the tournament I enjoy playing, but it comes just too soon after Wimbledon. I have some minor muscle problems and need to fully recover for what lies ahead. I wish the organizers all the best and I look forward to returning to the Canadian courts next year", Carlitos, whose best performance was a quarterfinal in 2023, wrote on social media.

Alcaraz joins Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper who have also withdrawn from the competition. Sebastian Korda and Hubert Hurkacz are two other tennis players who will not participate in the tournament. | BGNES
