Bulgaria gets green light to hold Giro d'Italia in 2026

This was stated by the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh.

The Council of Ministers (CM) has finally given permission to the Bulgarian Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Tourism to finalize talks for hosting one of the world's largest cycling races - Giro d'Italia (Giro D'Italia, Tour of Italy).

This was stated by the Bulgarian Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh at a briefing after the government meeting, a BGNES reporter reported.

Borshosh noted that this is an event that changes the host country in general, putting it on the world map of both tourism and sports - on the map of recognition as a destination.

"This is one of the world's largest sporting events", the Minister of Tourism also said and noted that the additional benefits for Bulgaria's image are enormous.

Borshosh announced that the negotiations began several months ago and with today's decision of the government they have reason to finalize these negotiations and soon present all the details about this exceptional tour, which will have stages in 2026 on the territory of Bulgaria and will include dozens of municipalities.

There will be three stages that will start in one part of Bulgaria and end in the other, he announced. "We still have a lot to clear up under the contract, including the date, routes, dates and budget", the Minister of Tourism specified, and I hope this will become a reality in the next two months, as well as the overall organization.

Borshosh described as good news that the cabinet has decided to support the proposal of the Ministry of Sports and the Ministry of Tourism. "We managed, against the background of other countries that want to host, to fight for this hosting, but let's still finalize the contract so that we can tell you more details", he added.
