The ATP (Men's Tennis Association) announced that the tennis tournament in Belgrade, Serbia is moving to the Greek capital Athens.
There is no official reason, but according to Serbian media, this is due to the conflict between Novak Djokovic and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
BGNES recalls that the 24-time Grand Slam champion recently expressed his support for student protests against government corruption in the country.
Nole's brother, Djordje, has been the director of the ATP 250 series tournament since 2021.
The competition in Athens will be held on indoor hard courts at the OAKA basketball hall. "The ATP 250 Hellenic Championship is organized by an experienced team behind nine previous international tournaments in Belgrade. This latest project builds on that legacy, with feverish preparations already underway to organize a first-class tournament in the historic city of Athens. We look forward to welcoming the tennis world to Greece this November", the tournament organizers said in a statement. | BGNES
