24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the Cincinnati Masters, meaning he will enter the US Open without a warm-up match since Wimbledon.
The Serb, who was beaten by world number one Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals of the All England Club, suffered an injury during the loss and is not playing in the ongoing tournament in Toronto. He last played on hard courts in Miami in March. His last Masters tournament was in April.
The three-time Cincinnati champion last played in the tournament in 2023, when he became champion after an extraordinary three-set drama with Carlos Alcaraz.
Djokovic is set to play as scheduled in the revamped mixed doubles event at the US Open, where he will partner compatriot Olga Danilovic on August 19 after receiving a wild card.
The Cincinnati Masters begins on Thursday, and the US Open begins on August 24. | BGNES
