Tarantino will present two westerns by George Sherman – Red Canyon from 1949 and Comanche Territory from 1950 – and will participate in a discussion with critic and director Elvis Mitchell.

The Classics program includes the film that will open the Cannes festival—a 4K version of Charlie Chaplin's 1925 film The Gold Rush. Mk2 Films is organizing the world premiere of the restored version on June 26.

Other selections include the world premiere of Diane Kurys' The One I Loved, about French film couple Simone Signoret and Yves Montand. Kurys was the first woman to open Cannes with Un Homme amoureux in 1987.

Istvan Szabo will be honored at the festival as part of the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the International Federation of Film Critics with a screening of his 1999 film "Sun," and the festival will also honor the late Edward Yang with a screening of his 2000 film "Yi Yi." from 2000.

The program will conclude on May 23 with a 4K version of Stanley Kubrick's epic 1974 film "Barry Lyndon," produced by the Criterion Collection.

Juliette Binoche will head the competition jury, and the festival will take place from May 13 to 24. | BGNES
