Bulgarian FM Georg Georgiev: Bulgaria has no new conditions for North Macedonia's EU integration

Geogriev stated that this act once again confirms Bulgaria's unwavering position of firm commitment to the European consensus of July 2015.

Foreign Minister of Bulgaria Georg Georgiev held a telephone conversation with his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Timcho Mutsunski, in which he officially informed him of the decision of the Bulgarian parliament adopted on May 30, 2025.

Geogriev stated that this act once again confirms Bulgaria's unwavering position of firm commitment to the European consensus of July 2015.

Georgiev said that this act once again confirms our country's unwavering position of strong commitment to the European consensus of July 2022 and sends an encouraging call to the government in Skopje to implement the agreements reached.

It is particularly important that the text of the Decision of the highest authority in the Bulgarian state reaffirms that our country has no conditions beyond the elements of the European consensus, Minister Georgiev emphasized, adding that this is also a clear signal of Bulgaria's constructive approach.

The same positions were presented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elena Shekerletova, who, at a meeting, officially handed over the Decision of the National Assembly of May 30 to the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia in Sofia, Agneza Rusi Popovska, and familiarized her with its full text. Deputy Minister Shekerletova emphasized that this act demonstrates the broad consensus that exists in Bulgaria regarding the European path of the Western Balkans.

Once again, Bulgaria has shown that it is consistent in its support for the Republic of North Macedonia and remains closely committed to the implementation of the agreements between the EU and Skopje.

In this context, Deputy Minister Shekerletova expressed her hope that the balanced tone of the text of the Decision and the clear guarantee that our country has no conditions other than those agreed in the European consensus package of measures will be objectively recognized and communicated in the public sphere by the political leadership of the Republic of North Macedonia. | BGNES
