18-year-old Canadian teenager to challenge Naomi Osaka for Montreal title

Victoria Mboko continues to make history at her home tournament in Canada. In Montreal, the 18-year-old local teenager sensationally advanced to the final of the tournament after shocking ninth seed Elena Rybakina in three sets - in the individual parts, 1-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4), in about two hours and 45 minutes of play.

Mboko, the 85th seed in the world, lost the first set convincingly, but then showed incredible character to cope with the strong opponent from Kazakhstan. The young Canadian twice lost a break lead in the second set before eventually equalizing at 7-5. The drama was even greater in the third - this time Mboko fell behind twice with a break, but managed to make up for the deficit, saving a match point in the tenth game. In the tiebreak, with the support of the fans in the stands, the 18-year-old new star showed composure to celebrate the final victory.

Earlier in the tournament, Mboko eliminated Roland Garros women's champion and leader number 1 seeded Coco Gauff.

Her opponent in the final is Naomi Osaka. The four-time Grand Slam winner stopped Dane Clara Tauson, who beat Wimbledon and Australian Open champions Iga Schwontek and Madison Keys respectively, 6-2, 7-6 (7).
